What was the world like 10 years ago? Well, here's a throwback Thursday to review!

Big & Rich "Comin' To Your City" album certified gold and platinum.

2006 was incredibly kind to Carrie Underwood: "Jesus Take the Wheel" was her first #1 Billboard hit and was on the chart for six weeks, then "Before He Cheats" was #1 on Billboard for five weeks. The American Music Awards gave Carrie Underwood "New Artist of the Year." "Jesus Take the Wheel" also won the Best Country Song Grammy.

"What Hurts the Most" by Rascal Flatts was #1 on Billboard for four weeks, "Summertime" by Kenny Chesney was #1 on Billboard for five weeks and Rodney Atkins' "If You're Going Through Hell" was #1 for four weeks.

Time Magazine names Alan Jackson's "The Firefly's Song" #5 and George Strait's "Why Can't I Leave Her Alone?" #6 on the Top Ten Songs of 2006.

The American Music Awards awards Kelly Clarkson "Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist", Toby Keith "Best Male Artist" and Faith Hill "Best Female Artist."

8 Artists had their first #1 Billboard hit: Carrie Underwood, Josh Turner, Jack Ingram, Jason Aldean, Rodney Atkins, The Wreckers, Heartland and Sugarland. 

George Strait's "She Let Herself Go" was his 40th #1 Billboard hit, which tied him for the world record with Conway Twitty. Later that year, Strait broke the record by scoring his 41st #1 hit with "Give It Away." Also, George Strait was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Johnny Cash's American V album instantly hit #1. 
Keith Urban's "Once in a Lifetime" becomes the highest-ever debuting song on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart during the Broadcast Data System era at #17 in its first week.
The documentary Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing is released. For a bit of deja vu, in this film a big issue for the band was Natalie Maines critical remarks against George W. Bush. Today in 2016, Natalie Maines is currently lashing out against candidate Ted Cruz, offended that he would "call himself an American."
Tim McGraw's film Flicka is released on October 20th.
Nov 6th is the first time The Country Music Association awards airs on ABC. The awards show had been on CBS since 1972. Controversy reigned when Faith Hill appeared to react angrily after Carrie Underwood won the Female Vocalist of the Year award. 
Barbaro won the Kentucky Derby.
"You"--as a World Wide Web user--won Time's Man of the Year.
Miss Kentucky (Tara Conner) won Miss USA.
Barry Bonds breaks Babe Ruth's and the World Record by hitting his 715th home run for the San Francisco Giants.
