Snack Like a Southerner: Fried Green Tomatoes


4 large green tomatoes
2 eggs
1/2cup milk
1/8 cup hot sauce
1cup flour
1/2cup cornmeal
1/2cup bread crumbs
1/2cup parmesan cheese
1/2tsp cayenne pepper
2tsp coarse kosher salt
1/4tsp ground black pepper
1 quart vegetable oil for frying

Step One:
Slice tomatoes about 1/2in thick.

Step Two:
In a large plastic baggie (makes clean up SOOOOO much easier and you don't have to get your hands dirty) pour in beaten eggs, milk and hot sauce. Seal and SHAKE.

Step Three:
In a second large plastic baggie, dump bread crumbs, cheese, cayenne, garlic powder, pepper, and salt. Seal and shake. Heat up oil so it will be hot when tomatoes are prepped.

Step Four:
Drop the tomato slices in the wet bag, soak. Cut the bottom corner of the bag to drain the wet ingredients from the baggie.

Step Five:
Dump wet tomatoes into the dry ingredients. Shake and coat.

Step Six:
Lay tomato slices in hot oil. Don't crowd. Cook for about tow minutes on each side. Drain on a paper towel.
