DIY: Pom Pom Bookmarks

From DesignMom:

Step One:
Gather your materials-
-yarn (8"-10" piece, and a 15" piece)

Step Two:
"To start, hold the end of the yarn in your hand, and begin wrapping the yarn around your fingers – snug but not too tight. We recommend wrapping the yarn 90 times."

Step Three:
"Cut the yarn after 90 wraps, and carefully slide it off your fingers. Lay it down over the 8-10 inch piece of yarn. Tightly tie a knot around the middle of the 90 loops."

Step Four:
"To add the bookmark ‘tail’, use the 15-inch piece of yarn, tie it around the same string you used to tie the 90 loops together."

Step Five:
Now that you have your yarn ball, it should look like this-
"Next, holding the ball on it’s side, slide your scissors through the yarn loops and start cutting. Instant fluffy yarn!"

Step Six:
Trim! Be careful not to cut the tail string.

Step 7:

DIY: Memory Box Table

This memory box table idea was inspired by

Step One:
Gather your materials-
-a small table
-a deep picture frame (about an inch smaller on all sides than the table top
-mementos (photos, souvenirs, postcards, etc.)
-hot glue

Step Two:
Measure out the picture frame and the table to make sure it fits. Next, organize the photo frame with the mementos. Play around with the arrangement until it's how you like it. Take a photo of it for reference so when you take everything out to glue it in, you don't forget the image you're going for. Glue the mementos into the frame and cover it with the glass.

Step Three:
Wait until the mementos are set. Now, mount the picture frame to the table using hot glue (or some type of wet cement to insure security.)

DIY: Statement Jewelry

Here are a few statement jewelry ideas using some really cheap and fun stuff from the craft store and found objects around the house!

I found a broken faux pearl necklace in the bottom of my closet that I must have gotten when I was maybe 10. It was pretty small. So, I cut thin pieces of fabric and glued the strips to the clasp not only to make the necklace longer, but it gave it a rustic homemade look.

I bought a pack of ring bodies and stick half pearls for four dollars at Michael's Crafts. I then found an old charm from a broken pendant and a few pieces of old craft gems. A little hot glue and bam! You can make the perfect statement rings.

Making your own jewelry is fun, easy, not as expensive as one would think and it allows your personality to we worn on the outside too. What does your bling say about you?

DIY: Backyard Luau Good Eats

Sand Dollar Cookies

These cookies might be a bit of a challenge to make, but it's totally worth it. They aren't too sweet and are brushed with a bit of cinnamon for the perfect day at the beach look and feel. Five shaved almond pieces pressed into the top and boom, perfect Sand Dollar cookie. Get the recipe here.

Sea Shell Chocolates
Get this mold from Michael's. You can also get the melting chocolate from there too, but Walmart has it cheaper. I used the cream and white chocolate colors. If you want to make them look marble, here's an awesome tutorial as to how!

Flip Flop Cookies

You can use Milano cookies or Nutter Butters. Ice them on top with any colors or designs you like, then use icing or licorice for the straps. I put them on a tray of graham cracker crumbs to look like sand and bought a few miniatures from Michael's (like buckets and the sand castle.)

Boozy Pina Colada Cupcakes

These were super fun and easy to make. The cupcakes were white cake mix with Pina Colada margarita mix, pineapple slices, coconut extract, splash of pineapple juice from the can of pineapple chunks, and about 1/4 cup vodka. I had to add a bit of flour and baking powder to it because of all of the liquid, but they turned out nice.

The frosting is 2 sticks of butter, a bag (yes BAG) of powdered sugar,  1/2 cup vodka, coconut extract, Pina Colada margarita mix and some yellow food coloring.

Snacks and Icebox Cake

I put all of the snacks into buckets. The little buckets have candy in them "Life Savers" starring as LifeSavers and Peach Rings, "Pool Noodles" as Twizzlers, "Fish" as Swedish Fish. I used the shovels as serving spoons.

Icebox Cake, because of the graham cracker crumbs and vanilla pudding has the tones and feel of the beach. It's also a cool dessert which is nice on a hot day. It's a layer of graham crackers, layer of vanilla pudding, layer of graham crackers, layer of vanilla pudding, graham crackers crumbled on top. CHILL. Serve.
